Huntington Woods Care and Rehabilitation Center was founded in Westlake in January 2008 as the premier healthcare provider in Northeast Ohio. With a goal of providing superior care through a positive and healthy environment for residents, their friends and families, and the company's employees, Huntington Woods Care and Rehabilitation Center began accepting residents in March 2008. We met recently with Executive Director Keith Alberts, and listened he described Huntington Woods' services and offerings;
Northern Ohio is home to some of the premier health care institutions in the country and Huntington Woods Care and Rehabilitation Center is among them providing superior care and service to those seeking long term care or rehabilitation services. In this country people expect excellent clinical and rehabilitative services because everyone knows the technology is there to support it and our State and Federal agencies insist on it. What takes Huntington Woods a notch higher is how those services are delivered, and the food!
Huntington Woods as a Rehab Hotel. Simply put, we do it the way it should be done. The building's floor plan, designed in collaboration with Dianna Bozek of Provider Services and the Walter S. Withers Design Group, reflects the décor of finer hotels, and is intended to facilitate what the industry is calling Person-Centered-Care. While the Ohio Department of Health requires a ratio of one nursing assistant to fifteen patients or residents, Huntington Woods is staffing one aid to six residents. This allows for more individualized delivery of services. Aids are encouraged to dine and engage in entertainment with residents, even while meeting all their physical needs. If a resident wants a fried egg at 8:00 p.m. and the kitchen staff has all gone home, the aid will fry that egg. Very few people want to leave their home and enter a rehab facility; our goal is to deliver a level of clinical care and service that will make the stay more than just palatable but down right pleasant. The bottom line is, a lot of people can design beautiful brick and mortar, but the real difference is the quality of the people that form the community of care givers.
Huntington Woods employs its own rehabilitation staff. The physical, occupational, and speech therapists are all a part of the community here at Huntington Woods. They are not contracted help but permanent employees of the building. Just like our nurses, nursing assistants, and other support staff, the therapists are accountable to the community to deliver state of the art services, with a smile! The staff at Huntington Woods enjoy what they do, and it shows.
All this said, what they will really talk about when they are sitting back at the country club with their friends is the food. For this reason Huntington Woods has hired an Executive Chef and a Sous-Chef to run the kitchen. The Chefs hold four year degrees with an emphasis on the Culinary Arts and Management, and the Chefs have set their sights on a Pastry Chef as well. At Huntington Woods we take food really seriously. It is key not only to maintaining skin integrity and overall improvement of health, but it can also impact the resident's psychological well being. People look forward to their meals! At Huntington Woods, residents in short term rehab will enjoy fine dining in a restaurant style setting complete with menus. Long term residents will enjoy equally fine dining in smaller dining room settings. To be sure, even with all the appearances, we will meet the needs of each resident's special diet. Just because a meal has to be puréed, or processed to what is called mechanical soft, doesn't mean it can't look attractive. We eat first with our eyes.
Huntington Woods is now open for business and is located at 27705 Westchester Parkway, just minutes east from Crocker Park, off Cahoon Road. Call Angela Evans, Director of Marketing and Admissions, to arrange a tour today, and don't forget to tell her The North Olmsted, Ohio Community Advocate
