As the world moved into the early 1990s, Julie Woyar began to notice how fewer and fewer people were able to keep up with many of their household chores. There never seemed to be enough time for shopping, cooking, doing dishes, laundry, or cleaning the house. In January 1994, Julie founded her Merry Maids® franchise to enable families in Cleveland's northwest suburbs find the help they need in these hectic times. We visited with Julie recently, and listened as she described the services Merry Maids® offers;
Merry Maids® offers a complete range of housecleaning services, including dusting, vacuuming, cleaning the kitchens and bathrooms, window cleaning, and special services such as spring cleanings. We tailor our services to the specific needs of each customer, and provide all of our own equipment and supplies. All of the products we use are made by Merry Maids®, and are non-toxic and EPA approved. All you have to do is let us in, and your home will be cleaned.
All of our employees must successfully complete both an in-office orientation and thorough in-field training sessions where they're taught exactly what needs done, how to do it, and how to properly address each customers' needs. Each staff member is an employee of Merry Maids® and we never use sub-contractors. They're bonded, insured, covered by Workers Compensation insurance and Social Security, and we withhold all appropriate payroll taxes.
Our cleaning schedules are designed to fit each customer's preference. We visit most of our customers every other week, but we also have a number of weekly customers and monthly customers. We do special occasion cleaning for wedding showers, graduations, and anytime you just need a little extra help. Some customers have us clean their entire home, and others will simply have us clean traffic areas. Very often we'll have young couples or empty nesters with large homes having many areas that aren't used frequently. For them we'll regularly clean the most heavily trafficked areas, and only clean the seldom used areas on special occasions.
Most customers are curious about what happens if they can't be at home on cleaning day. They can either make arrangements for someone to let us into their home, or they can place a key on file here.
Many of our customers' families include dogs, cats, guinea pigs, and other pets. If the animal is friendly and used to having the run of the house, our cleaners will simply pat them on the head on the way in and out, and proceed to clean the home as usual.
We prefer to do in-home estimates where we review how much or how little the customer wants done, and provide them with a quote based on that estimate. They then have a pre-determined price for every week we're there.
